As most of you have seen on the news a tropical storm, Bonnie, is going to “clip” Florida today and the track shows it heading toward Louisiana (just east of Baton Rouge). The storm is traveling at a swift speed. Governor Jindal has declared a state of emergency for La.
HCLA would like to remind everyone to review your hurricane preparedness plans for your agencies and patients. Check in with your “at risk, most vulnerable patients”. This is also a reminder of why HCLA is asking you to email your total census and the number of “at risk” patients that have no means of evacuating to us every other week. We pass these “at risk” numbers to OEP so they can make appropriate preparations as needed. Please respond to Suzanne Richter’s bi weekly emails that remind you to email this information to HCLA. The email address is atriskregistry@hclanet.org.
Also remember to review your personal plan as our family’s safety is most important. Make sure your employees have done so also. When you feel your family is taken care it is easier to meet your agencies needs also.
At Risk Patients are defined as:
– Home health patients living alone, without a caregiver and unable to evacuate on their own; or
– Home health patients living with a caregiver (either mentally or physically) incapable of following through on an evacuation order; or
– Home health patients simply without the financial means to follow through on an evacuation order.

As a reminder, take a look at the “Find a Safe Place-Hurricane Safety for the Elderly” video and feel free to pass it on.
